Penguins Game Tonight

Looks like Sid the Kid will be back tonight as the Islanders invade the Igloo in Pittsburgh. According to the Pittsburgh papers, Crosby has missed 28 of the last 31 games the Penguins have played but is now rolling into shape for the stretch drive toward the playoffs.

Since we really don't have a rooting interest once our boys are knocked out, I am secretly hoping that the Capitals leap-frog the Bruins into the final spot and the Penguins overtake the Canadiens for first in the East so that we can have the Alex Ovechkin-Sidney Crosby playoff matchup that we all would love. Plus, let's never forget that Evgeni Malkin and Ovechkin aren't exactly "Heals and Flats" best buddies so that would be an interesting sideline in the series as well.

The good news for the Islanders is that with so many young guys up from Bridgeport, those players are getting some NHL ice time and that experience should bode well for the Sound Tigers in the American League playoffs when they return to the Bridge. Last night the boys beat their rivals the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Penguins on the road 3-2 to keep pace in the playoff push. Mike Morrison made 34 saves in the effort and Ben Walter scored for the Sound Tigers. Colton Fretter scored at 4:24 in the third to seal the game for Bridgeport.

Interesting to note that Matthew Spiller, Steve Regier, Tim Jackman and Jeremy Colliton all played last night for the Sound Tigers and all are expected to be recalled to play tonight for the Islanders against Pittsburgh. The Isles also recalled Mike Mole to back up Wade Dubielewicz tonight. Joey MacDonald has been assigned back to the Bridge to split time with Mike Morrison.
