Anyone Else Feeling Nervous?
I don't even know what to say after watching the game last night. The scoring woes for the Islanders are now a full-out crisis. Vokun is a good goalie, don't get me wrong, but our boys have to simply find a way to get pucks into the net. I thought that the defensive effort was poor and that Rick had saved the Islanders bacon enough times in the first two periods but the little else worked as the punchless Isles moved their winless streak to five in a 3-0 loss. Teams like the Panthers are the guys the Isles need to get the two points on.
The Isles are now 13-12-1 and are not winning the games they had been earlier in the season. Marc Andre Bergeron is obviously getting frustrated with his role, as the blowup on the bench with assistant coach Gerard Gallant during the third period of the 4-3 shootout loss Wednesday night in Atlanta.
Tonight the boys play in Tampa. The Lightning have been hot of late and have speed much like the Panthers do. They also have, by the way, the guy who might be the best player in the league right now, Vincent Lecavalier. Coming off their second shutout in the last four, you have to admit that this trip is not looking good. Hold your breath tonight.
