BREAKING NEWS: Vasicek, Islanders Agree to One-Year Deal

The Islanders have agreed to terms with center Josef Vasicek on a one-year contract. The 6-4, 200 pound Vasicek who will turn 27 when training camp opens next month, fills the Islanders' need for a strong two-way center.

Vasicek's best NHL season so far was in 2004-04 when he was 19-26-45 in 82 games with the Carolina Hurricanes. With added responsibility and under Ted Nolan's direction, Vasicek could be poised for a breakout season.
