Ryan Smyth update and more Chris Simon fallout
Look like Ryan Smyth is doing okay. According to Newsday, he is going to play tonight against the Capitals.
Chris Simon has been all over the news. I was pissed last night to see the incident played at 5:14 on the local news. This morning I have seen the incident as I flipped around on Fox News and MSNBC. Why is it that hockey only makes the news for violent acts and not for great plays? (And As I type this the douchebag sports guy from Headline News is talking about it. Ugh.)
Simon has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL because he cannot travel to Toronto for his hearing due to complications consistent with a concussion. Whether or not he received the concussion from the hit by Hollweg is not clear. It doesn't matter, really, because Chris Simon was clearly out of his mind in a blind moment when it happened.
As it stands right now, the Islanders are still in seventh place. They are 4 points out of sixth (with 2 games in hand on Tampa) and have a one point lead on the Hurricanes. Carolina also has played two more games than our boys.
